Lower Chinns Reservoir
Clear Creek County, Colorado
project description
ESCO completed the Lower Chinns Reservoir project for the Agricultural Ditch and Reservoir Company in Clear Creek County, CO in the fall of 2017. The Lower Chinns Reservoir Dam Rehabilitation project commenced with the stripping the existing dam face of riprap and preparing for the installation of the geosynthetic clay liner (GCL). ESCO produced 1.5-inch minus material onsite for the zoned dam embankment material. Once this material was processed, tested, and approved, a 1-foot lift was placed on the dam face and compacted, along with an anchor trench and key trench on the upstream and downstream slope of the dam. Then the GCL was installed and a 1-foot protective layer of the embankment was used to cover and protect the GCL. Additionally, the inlet pipe was extended, and the surrounding areas were sealed with bentonite augmented fill. The final steps were the installation of geotextile fabric and placement of riprap.
