ESCO was contracted by Saunders Construction to perform the earthwork, utilities, flatwork and asphalt pave the 4 Acre Workforce Housing project for Winter Park. Earthwork operations included 3,000 CY of onsite cut to embankment, 6,700 CY of material screening, 2,200 CY of structure excavation, 680 TN of ¾” washed aggregate drainage layer and 2,000 TN of boulder export. Utilities consisted of 919 LF of waterline per the specifications of Winter Park Water and Sanitation District, 783 LF of Sanitary Sewer and 2,884 LF of 6” to 36” Storm Sewer with two hydrodynamic separators. Hardscapes were inclusive of 773 SY of varying width sidewalk, 1,772 LF of curb & gutter with 304 LF of surface drain pans. Finish work and base placement consisted of 16,180 SY of site fine grading, 3,280 SY of subgrade finish inside the building footprints, 7,320 SY of 12” scarify & recompacting of roadway subgrade and importing and placing 1,320 TN of Class 6 Base.
From a constructability standpoint, this project presented unique challenges with its small and lengthy 4-acre footprint. Due to the layout of the project, ESCO coordinated with the client during every operation to ensure it’s success in the most efficient way possible. Additionally, with the utility tie in locations being in the middle of Winter Park Dr, ESCO fashioned a traffic control plan with a detour that would route traffic in and around a neighboring parking lot to create minimal traffic delays. Due to the substantial boulders underground and nest of existing utilities at the tie in location, a Vac Truck was used to ensure the safety of the crew as well as mitigate risk of striking an existing utility
